National Boss's Day:
Celebrating Marty Ashby of MCG Jazz

Plus-- Check Out Marty's Recent Features in DownBeat and WHIRL Magazines!

This National Boss’s Day, we’re celebrating someone who leads with vision, creativity, and heart — MCG Jazz's VP and Executive Producer, Marty Ashby.

This year, Marty was honored with the 2025 DownBeat Magazine Lifetime Achievement Award for Presenting Jazz, recognizing nearly four decades of his work preserving, presenting, and promoting this art form. His story is featured in the November 2025 issue of DownBeat Magazine on page 68 in a profile titled “The Musician as Presenter.”

From producing more than 2,000 concerts and

70-plus recordings (including multiple GRAMMY®

winners!) to mentoring emerging artists and building

one of the country’s most respected and longstanding

jazz subscription series, Marty’s leadership has

shaped MCG Jazz into the creative home it is today.

“Artists that present a heartfelt and transparent

intention to  bring joy to an audience are the ones

I gravitate to,” Marty says — a sentiment that

perfectly captures his approach

to both music and leadership.

You can also catch Marty in the Summer 2025 issue of WHIRL Magazine (pages 42-44) where he shares how his work in sound therapy and energy healing

deepens his connection to music and the human spirit– pretty cool stuff!

From his early days as a guitarist in his family

band, then a young festival producer to his role

as an award-winning presenter who still rocks out

from time to time, Marty continues to inspire

our team, our audiences, and the jazz community

at large.

Thank you, Marty, for your leadership, creativity,

and dedication to keeping jazz alive and thriving,

not just today, but every day.

HAPPY NATIONAL BOSS’S DAY!
